President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday brushed-off a petition seeking to overturn his election victory, saying that the time for politics was over.

But Mr Kenyatta said that he was not opposed to the election petition as every Kenyan had a democratic right to seek redress.

“The country must move forward. The time for politics is over,” affirmed Mr Kenyatta during a meeting with business leaders at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi on Wednesday.

Cord has said it will file a petition to challenge the election of the Jubilee leader.

During the meeting, Mr Kenyatta argued that even as Cord challenges his election at the Supreme court, all efforts must be made to lower political temperatures.

He admitted that the petition had slowed down the process of setting up the government, but promised to constitute his team as soon as the case is concluded.

Mr Kenyatta indicated that he will opt for a lean all-inclusive government with representatives from the private sector.

He also said that the government will “reflect the face of Kenya.”

The President-elect extended a welcome hand to all political parties to form a unified government to enable the country achieve Vision 2030.

He noted that divisions might have cropped up during the campaign period but urged leaders to concentrate on uniting voters and running the government.

Ideological differences

“As is usually the case, ideological differences are inevitable during campaigns. But that is now over and we must work as one country and one people,” said Mr Kenyatta.

This is the second time Mr Kenyatta is calling on his rivals to cool down political temperatures and move the country forward after elections.

Cord says it will challenge in court the election of Uhuru Kenyatta as the Kenya’s fourth president alleging that the tallying of votes was flawed.
