Kenya's Prime Minister Raila Odinga |
Commission Chairman Otiende Amollo said his commission had learnt the PM’s official website contained campaign materials.
He said they have officially written to the PM’s office warning of “consequences” should the office fail to withdraw the campaign materials.
However, he added, his commission received an undertaking from the PM’s office expressing willingness to comply with the condition.
“We have written to the office of the Prime Minister because we found campaign materials on the official website of that office,” he said.
Some of the public resources being used in the campaigns include Government vehicles, aircraft, official websites and State-owned printing machines, among others.
At least five senior Government officials are in the presidential race and could have easy access to State resources due to their influence across the Public Service.
They include Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Deputy Prime ministers Uhuru Kenyatta and Musalia Mudavadi and Assistant minister Peter Kenneth.
Amollo said there were also other senior public officials who have been reported to the commission for abuse of public resources. - The Standard
