President KIBAKI assures nation of SECURITY during elections

President Mwai Kibaki today assured the nation that the government will provide enough security as the country gets into election mode.

The President said that a meeting will be held between the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the National Police Service Commission and the Provincial Administration to streamline the security effort for the upcoming party primaries and general elections.

Kibaki was speaking during a meeting at his Harambee House office with the Chairman of the IEBC, Issack Hassan meant to brief him on the preparations for the March 4th elections.
Kibaki told the commission to ensure that it does a thorough voter education exercise so that all Kenyans are informed on the best choices to make at the polls come March 4th.

Hassan told the President that the commission had registered 14.9 million voters and would allow for the inspection of the voter’s register starting on the 15th of January.

The IEBC Chairman also said that the commission was setting up some 33,000 polling station across the country each of which will cater for a maximum of 450 voters.

Importantly also, Hassan revealed that the nomination venue for the Presidential aspirants will be at the Kenyatta International Conference Center while that for the other seats will be held at the county level.

Also present at the meeting were Internal Security Minister Katoo ole Metito, Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa, Head of Civil Service Francis Kimemia, Attorney General Githu Muigai among others.
