Johnstone Muthama Threatens Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua with Impeachment

Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has renewed his fight against Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, threatening the governor with impeachment.

Speaking soon after the Senate voted to impeach Embu Governor Martin Wambora, Muthama said Muta is headed for the same fate as Wambora, saying that he will mobilize Machakos MCAs to begin the impeachment process against the governor over what he calls the governor’s abuse of office and corruption.

“I will mobilize MCAs to initiate an impeachment motion against Governor Mutua and when it comes to the Senate, I will make sure his fate is sealed personally,” adding that “governors are hard-headed and should be taught a lesson. We will continue impeaching Governors until they learn to respect us.”

The two Machakos politicians have been involved in a bitter and public political fight over the running of the country, with Muthama accusing Mutua of failing to use proper procedures to allocate county resources for his various development projects in Machakos county, projects the senator has dismissed as “cheap publicity stunts.” Governor Mutua on the other hand accuses the senator of being anti-development, while also adding that Muthama’s allegations are a refusal of Mutua failing to award tenders to Muthama’s political cronies.
