Ten suspects, who were being held at the Kapsabet Police Station cell, have carried out a daring escape from the Kapsabet Police Station Saturday night. The suspects, who included a capital offense suspect (robbery with violence), a rape suspect and 8 juvenile offense suspects, made their escape at an unknown time late last night by digging a hole through the wall of the cell they were being held in. Confirming the incident, the Nandi Central OCPD Shem Mganda told The Standard that the 10 suspects collected urine in a jerry can which they used to sock the part of the wall where they made the hole. “After socking the part of the wall, we suspect they used illegally obtained sharp objects or sticks to erode the cement wall bit by bit until they had removed a block from the wall. They went ahead to make a hole big enough to pass a mature human form,” reported the OCPD. They thereafter made their escape from the police holding at an undetermined time escaping the watch of night duty police officers present in the police station. This daring escape is the second in the history of the Kapsabet Police Station cell escapes. 5 years ago, 4 cell inmates, used the ventilation at the Kapsabet Police Station to make their escape. The suspects, who were all capital offence suspects were never found until a few years later where, one by one, they were shot dead by police officers in different towns in the country including Nairobi, in the process of crime busting. The Nandi Central OCPD Shem Mganda says that the police have set a manhunt for the 10 escaped suspects who he says are ‘known’ to the police and the people of Nandi as frequent offenders. He pleaded the members of the public to give reports to the police station in the event that they site suspicious characters and the known escaped cell mates. The suspects were to be arraigned at the Kapsabet court on Monday.
