Kibaki deploys KDF Soldiers to flush MRC out of Jibana Forest

Jibana forest in Kilifi County is set to be a battle ground between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) militants.

This is after the Government led by President Kibaki resolved to deploy KDF soldiers to flush out MRC militants from the forest after it emerged that the forest was the hideout and training place for MRC.

While speaking yesterday, the KDF Spokesman Bogita Ongeri said that it was their secondary responsibility to provide support to civil power in the restoration of order within the country. He however, admitted the tough challenge KDF is facing in flushing out the MRC since the forest is thick and dark making hard to see the targets and their activities.

Last week, just on the eve of the Monday’s General Election, eight police officers were attacked and killed while transporting election materials in Coast region by suspected members of MRC.

Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta in his acceptance speech as the President elect on Saturday paid tribute to the fallen officers and vowed to make security top priority in his agenda for Kenya.
