Violence rocked Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting in Nyeri on Friday after some TNA spirants were barred from entering the venue by the organisers.

The ban by the organisers prompted   aspirants’ supporters to engage in a shouting match outside the hall at Outspan Hotel in Nyeri town.

The organisers had a difficult time trying to restrain the aspirants from entering the fully packed hall.

The aspirants were infuriated after Mathira MP Ephraim Maina and his Kieni counterpart Nemesyus Warugongo were allowed in the meeting.

Supporters of the aspirants claimed that the presence of the two MPs at the meeting was discriminatory, as they too, were vying for seats in March 4thelections.

Despite the grumbling, the meeting went on for nearly two hours.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta assured the aspirants that there will be no preferred candidate and his party nominations will be free and fair.

“In the end, it is the people who will decide,” Uhuru said.
