The Jubilee Coalition will dominate seats on the parliamentary Committee on Appointments, which will vet Cabinet secretary nominees announced Tuesday.

The coalition got 12 seats against Cord’s nine, meaning Jubilee could bulldoze the list through the full House where it has a majority. One slot went to the four members of the independent candidates.

Leader of Majority Aden Duale tabled 28 names, which were approved by the House Business Committee (HBC) Tuesday.

During a debate, MPs challenged the committee to ensure that only persons of integrity and proven track record go through. The committee, to be chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi, will also vet principal secretaries who also require House approval.

The members are Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso, Mr Duale, his deputy Naomi Shaaban, Leader of Minority Francis Nyenze and deputy Jokoyo Midiwo.

Others are Jackson Kiptanui, Issac Ali Shaban, Roselinda Soipan, Katoo ole Metito, Jamleck Kamau, Amina Abdallah, Gideon Konchellah, Cecily Mbarire, Moses Cheboi, Nelson Gaichuhie, Boniface Gatobu, David Wafula, Esther Murugi, Ibrahim SaneMishi, Juma Khamis, Manson Nyamweya, Joseph Nkaissery, Abass Ahmed Ibrahim, Chris Wamalwa Wakhungu, Marcus Muluvi Mutua, Stephen Mutinda Mule and Ken Obura.

Mr Duale also tabled the names of MPs appointed to sit on the Speaker’s Panel. They preside over the House when Speaker and deputy are absent.

They are Moses Cheboi, Rachael Shebesh, Tom Kajwang’ and Jesica Mbalu, who will be the first, second, third and fourth chairpersons respectively.

MPs approved the four to serve as temporary deputy speakers and chairpersons of the Committee of the Whole House. Parliament will have seven days to vet the nominees.
