At least ten police officers and chiefs in North Eastern region have been interdicted for being involved in illegal activities linked to the killings in Garissa Town.

On Sunday, Internal security Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo announced that security officers and administrative officials were interdicted in connection with the recent killings in the area. He added that similar action will be taken against customs involved in the illegal activities.

Officials, who sought anonymity, said at least ten police officers and chiefs had been interdicted to pave way for investigations.

At the same time, the Government pledged to offer a reward of between Sh50, 000 and Sh100,000 to anyone who may provide information that will lead to the arrest of criminals behind serial killings in GarissaTown.

The internal security PS said the government will streamline and closely monitor operations of taxi and boda boda operators including limiting the latter’s working hours to between 6 am and 6 pm.

He further stated that security agents will closely monitor visitors booked in hotels and those renting residential houses. Additionally, they will arrest all aliens for repatriation after conviction in courts and enhance patrols and mount roadblocks.

“All officers who have overstayed in North Eastern counties will be transferred immediately to improve efficiency,” said Iringo.

He said more General Service Unit and Administration Police’s Rapid Deployment Unit will be deployed to the areas to be involved in planned operation.

These measures, Iringo explained, are among the steps that he and other top officials agreed on during their visit of Garissa town.

The latest killings happened on Thursday in which ten people were killed in a hotel by gunmen who escaped.
