Nairobi; Kenya The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended voting in four county assembly wards after errors were noted in the ballot papers.

IEBC chair Issack Hassan said that in the interest of fairness the voting in wards will be repeated on March 11.The affected wards are Nyabasi West and Goke Haraka Ward in Kuria East Constituency, Bunyala South Ward in Budalangi Constituency and Gwassi North Ward in Gwassi Constituency.

IEBC said the cancellation of the voting will only affect the seats for the County assembly wards and will not affect five other positions.

€œThere was a mix up of pictures of County assembly ward candidates. IEBC has postponed voting for the candidates to allow for fairness and will repeat the poll on March 11 Hassan said.

Said Hassan: We also are aware of malfunction due to a lot of problems including power outages. The IEBC has organized back up for areas where poll books failed. The electoral officials will make use of the book which  is a printed version of the poll book.

We have authorized the use of printed poll register book. The requirement for voting is the ID or the passport which were used to register as voters.€ If the Passport is expired then the voter should carry the new one as well as old one used at the station for registration of voting.

€All returning officers are asked to allow only validly registered voters to exercise their vote.€ Hassan said at a press conference at Bomas of Kenya which is the nerve centre for tallying of votes and monitoring the exercise. -The Standard
