The Chairman of the National Authority for theCampaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) John Mututho has been ordered to deposit Sh6.4million in the High Court by end of business on Thursday, or face the auctioneer’s hammer.
Justice David Onyancha rejected Mututho’s request to pay Sh1 million and an additional Sh1.9 million in a case where the law firm of Kilonzo & Company Advocates is seeking outstanding legal fees.
Lawyer Mutula Kilonzo Junior urged the court to order Mututho to pay the amount in full, arguing that any delay will attract interest on the amount.
Mututho was slapped with a Sh5.3 million bill as legal fees but the amount has since risen to Sh13.5 million after he contested the figure.
Kilonzo & Company Advocates successfully represented Mututho in a petition filed against him by his 2007 poll rival, former Naivasha MP Jane Kihara.
Mututho, who vied on a Kanu ticket trounced Kihara the Narc-Kenya flag bearer resulting in the petition.
