President Mwai Kibaki has today declared that the Bomas of Kenya will be a restricted area on March 4th.
Kibaki said that only authorized people will be allowed within the Bomas of Kenya on election day. Kibaki also added that about 9,000 police officers will be deployed around the area to maintain order.
Bomas has been designated by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as its central tallying centre.
Kibaki’s decision to declare Bomas a restricted area could be a sign of the painful lessons he learnt in 2007 when the head of the electoral commission Samuel Kivuitu at one point found himself without a safe place to release the results of the Presidential elections.
