National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende wants to be re-elcted back to the Eleventh Parliament on merit based on his last performance but not as an ODM sponsored candidate.
He said “I have offered my candidature as an individual on merit based on my performance in the Tenth Parliament and any reasonable MP has little choice but to vote for me,”. He said while he was speaker he put interests of Kenyans first above his personal or party interets.
“My decisions in the House helped the country move forward and progress over the last five years,” said Marende.
In April of 2009 Marende is remembered for ending the disagreement between president Kibaki and Prime minister Raila Odinga on who would be leader of Government business in the House.
“The Speaker of the National Assembly, who under the Standing Orders is an ex officio member of the Committee, shall serve as the chairperson of the Committee until such time as the Speaker shall receive the name of one member consensually nominated by the Government for the position of chairperson of the House Business Committee,” Marende told Parliament.
