Makueni Senate seat aspirant Harun Mwau has pledged to donate his entire salary to the people of Makueni if elected to the post in the March 4 polls.
Speaking during his campaign trail in the County, the flamboyant former Kilome MP said his quest for the seat is not buoyed by the pay package it attracts, but the need to give a better service to the people of Makueni.
“I have made enough money from my private engagements and the little I would be paid as senator would just be like a drop of water in the ocean,” he said.
He added: “Just like I have donated my parliamentary salary to the people of Kilome for five years, I will donate my senate salary to educate poor children from this county.”
He caused a stir at Mukuyuni shopping Centre when he said he pays his pilot Sh2.1million monthly, enough to pay his competitor’s ministerial salary and still have a balance to pay an MP’s full salary.
Mwau faces fierce challenge from education minister Mutula Kilonzo who is also contesting for the Makueni senatorial seat.
The former Kilome MP has warned the electorate against electing individuals only looking for jobs and financial prosperity, saying such leaders cannot deliver any meaningful development as they are only out to fulfill their selfish interests.
He called on the electorate to vet all the aspirants for the various seats and elect leaders with development record. - The Standard
