Family of Kabuga informer seeking answers

The family of a man who died mysteriously while assisting United States Federal agents to track down Rwandese fugitive Felicien Kabuga wants the cause of his death made public.

Mr William Munuhe was found dead in his Nairobi house on January 14, 2003.

A Press release by the US government on February 13 that year said the 27-year-old had come forward to volunteer information on the whereabouts of Mr Kabuga, who is said to be hiding in Kenya, to International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).

“It is 10 years since Munuhe died and we have been anxiously waiting to be told what exactly happened,” his brother, Mr Josephat Mureithi, said in Nakuru yesterday. He said neither the Kenyan nor US government had communicated with the family after his brother was buried in Muruguru village in Nyeri County.

He produced a letter which he claimed was found later.

In the undated letter, the writer claims he was abducted by three men at the Safari Park Hotel and bundled into a car. It says he was taken to a room and tortured. The letter does not say how he escaped.

Mr Mureithi said the family was yet to submit the letter to the police. -Daily nation
