Parties extend nominations over anomalies

United Republican Party (URP) chairman Francis Ole Kaparo has faulted the slow pace of the URP’s nomination on logistical challenges.

Kaparo said that though the exercise has been going well, the party has experienced problems in some areas of the country. He further said that the slow process was occasioned by IEBC delaying to handover the register that would have aided them in identifying registered party members.

Kaparo also pleaded with the Education ministry, teachers and parents to allow the party more time to conclude the exercise.

He asked that the party be allowed to use schools tomorrow to conduct the nomination process in West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Bomet, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties where the process failed to kick off.

The URP chairman however clarified that in the areas where the nomination exercise started late, it will be extended to 10p.m.

The party urged members and supporters to maintain peace and be tolerant of others during the nomination.

Other parties have also postponed the nomination process due to logistical issues. TNA and Wiper have also extended their nominations and have insisted that the process will be free and fair.

Meanwhile ODM's National Election Delegates chairman Franklin Bett has said that the party is the nominations process he termed as “acceptable” in 44 of the 47 counties.

He however said that the exercise will be repeated in Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori counties where anomalies were reported.
