A senior police officer shot and seriously injured his son when a gang broke into his house in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on Monday morning.
Senior Superintendent Kenneth Momanyi said he was woken up by his wife, who informed him that two armed men had broken into their house at 3.15am.
He said that he fired several bullets from his Ceska pistol and the attackers escaped. However, the officer later realised that he had shot his 14-year-old son Kevin Momanyi.
Police in Nairobi said the boy was in a stable condition and that they were investigating the incident.
Hit by a vehicle
Separately, an officer based at Kabete Police Station was killed when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Waiyaki Way on Sunday night.
Constable Justus Mulei, 37, was knocked down by a vehicle that did not stop.
But the police said that they had found the details of the car and forwarded it to Kenya Revenue Authority to trace the owner.
Elsewhere, a warrant officer based at Kahawa Barracks fell off the flyover and died on the spot. Mr Sam Muthusi was crossing the flyover when he accidentally fell down, his colleagues said.
