Controversy has risen at Mbiriri social center parish in Nyeri after a demand letter by lawyers was issued to a catholic priest in the area claiming that he fathered a boy 13 years ago and his former ‘lover’ was demanding paternal responsibilities.
Father Josephat Mwanzia is said to have had an illicit affair with a catholic faithful Cecilia Mbiki while he was serving as a Father at a catholic church in Kilifi County in 1998. The Father was later transferred to Nyeri where he has been serving the Church.
Mbiki is alleged to have hired lawyers to present her in the case and demanded for child upkeep and paternal responsibility of the son they sired.
Contrary to the allegations Fr. Mwanzia declined knowing Mbiki and her son and claimed that this was a plot to defame him as he has been having a family dispute with his family in Kangundo.
According to Mwanzia, Mbiki had sent several demand letters to him and to the headquarters of Consolata Missionaries. Mwanzia has however reported the case to the CID headquarters and to his superiors.
Mwanzia further added that he is ready to face the woman in court and have a DNA test conducted as he is a Godly man and has never gone contrary to his vows since his ordination.
