Renowned Kalenjin secular musician Diana Chemutai Musila famously known as Chelele was on Saturday morning found dead in her house in Kapwen, Bomet County.
County Police Commander Leah Kithei said that the singer’s body had several stab wounds and was found at the verandah.
Ms Kithei said investigations into the death of the singer were underway but police suspect that she may have been murdered elsewhere and her body dumped at her home.
“The gate and the door to the house were opened and had no signs of breaking in, we have gathered some details of the crime scene which we hope will help us in the investigations,” Ms Kithei said.
Bomet OCPD Abel Sande said preliminary investigations indicate that the renowned female artiste was murdered.
Ms Chelele’s death comes few months after social media fraternity announced her death but it later emerged that she had only been hospitalised after she allegedly attempted suicide.

The Kalenjin Artists and Musicians Association (Kamua) director Bernard Langat said the singer was last spotted on January 7 in Bomet town boarding a car to an unknown destination.
“One of his close friends known as “Brownie” tried to reach her on phone since then in vain. Today in the morning her two sisters searched for her after getting the reports of her mysterious disappearance only to find the body at the verandah of her house at Kapkwen shopping centre having been seriously wounded,” said Mr Langat.
The society said her demise has left a big gap in the music industry and asked the police to speed up investigations and bring to book whoever was involved.
Musicians have condoled with her family and friends terming her a talented musician who has revolutionised Kalenjin secular music.
Bureti Superstars musicians said: “She was such a great and lovely sister who with the introduction of moving phrases such as 'Musiki bila waya, dance troupe, celebrity styles, and foreign dialects among others. May she Rest in peace.”
The body of the singer famously known for her songs, Igaigayan, Meus Kondo, Mapenzi, Binti Osama, Mashabik among others, was taken to the Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
CONTROVERSY
The singer spurred a lot of controversy when her husband, an AP officer, Eric Makau was arrested and charged for the murder of a surveyor, Eliud Yego.
Mr Makau who has sired twins with the singer was accused of shooting dead Mr Yego who was a famous surveyor in Eldoret after suspecting that he had an affair with his wife. The officer was initially based in Bomet County for a long time.
On October 3 last year, the deceased was admitted at the Nakuru General Hospital after she attempted suicide after she was found unconscious in a hotel in Nakuru, moments after she had called her friends and informed them of her intentions.
She had a month before, filed for divorce at Bomet Law courts but later settled the matter out of court.
Her family said that her children are currently under the custody of her husband who is out on bond after being charged for the murder. The case is pending in court.
