It's so sad to learn that in this day and age, educated men still batter their wives. A story has been trending on social media since yesterday of a 26 year old lady, Ruth Gakii, who is nursing serious injuries after being beaten senseless by her husband.
Ruth Gakii who is currently admitted at the Nairobi Women's Hospital was beaten up by her husband after a misunderstanding where he accused her of not taking good care of their son. This is not the first time Ruth's husband Alphonse Kambu has assaulted her. The man who works United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) always gets away with it since enjoys diplomatic immunity.
“We separated two months after I gave birth to our son. Since then he has been picking our son every weekend and returning him,” narrated Ms Gakii, 26.
On the day of the assault, Mr.Kambu as usual brought the three-year-old son home after attending a birthday party.
“When he arrived, he was drunk and the baby was dripping wet so I took him to the bedroom for a change of clothes,” recalled Ms Gakii.
While Ms Gakii was changing the boy in the bedroom, he started querreling with the house-help demanding to know why there was no food in the house.
“Immediately I came from the bedroom, he slapped, kicked me and smashed me against the wall. At this point, the house-help fled with the baby leaving me behind helpless,”she added.
Concerned neighbors came to her aid after they heard her screams.
