Sources said Jermaine Grant loves Kenya’s most favourite team and is the reason why he wears the club’s replica jerseys.
Gor Mahia fans erupted in anger after images and videos of Grant in the club’s green jersey were posted online.
Grant was in a Mombasa court for his trial over an alleged plot to make bombs and detonate them in Kenya. Gor Mahia fans on a Facebook page posted several strong statements condemning the appearance of Grant in court in the jersey.
The page – Gor Mahia is Not a Club, It’s a Lifestyle, but Do We Say – has been liked by over 50,000 people, some believed to be diehard fans. Others said they suspected the terror suspect was used by “someone with political motives”.
“We are aware someone is using this to gain some political mileage,” read a post on the page.
However, some fans defended the suspect saying the claims are baseless.
Grant, a Briton, has been charged with keeping explosives allegedly found in an apartment he was sharing with Samantha Lewthwaite aka White Widow, the world’s most wanted terror suspect.
During the December 3 hearing for Grant, the Mombasa court issued summons to two Scotland Yard detectives to testify against Grant.
The case was put off till February 17, when two police officers are expected to testify. He is facing other charges of impersonation and acquiring a birth certificate illegally in a Kilifi court.
