At least five people have been arrested in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County in connection with suspected manufacture of fake milk.

The suspects were arrested after from the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) found over 12,000 liters of fake milk. According to KDB, the suspects were making a concoction of spoilt milk and various chemicals such as formalin (a chemical used in mortuaries to preserve bodies), hydrogen peroxide and urea. They would then sell the concoction as milk to unsuspecting customers in the area. Some of this “milk” was also sold in Nairobi and Nakuru.

“We have been receiving these complaints from residents and that was why we launched the investigations. This is a business that has been going on for some time now,” said Hellen Mbugua, the KDB branch manager in Naivasha.
