Away from the combative style, a seemingly humbled politician told the trial court in Nairobi that he has been pursuing an out of court settlement with a view of reconciling with his accusers to cool off the ethnic animosity his utterances caused while he was representing constituents.
"I want to take this opportunity very sincerely to apologise to the Maasai community, the words I uttered were not meant to hurt anybody. I promise to live in peace with them, we are living in harmony now and I have apologised as the one who uttered those words," he said.
He was in court for a hearing of the hate speech case in which he was charged with making remarks that were perceived to have ignited a manhunt for members of the Maasai community in which two people were killed.
Mr Waititu’s lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, told the court parties have been meeting and have agreed to bring the issue to a harmonious end.
