Uhuru's former college declines to comment on his inauguration

As the United States offered its congratulations to President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta a day before his inauguration, Amherst College, from where Mr Kenyatta earned a degree in Political Science and Economics in 1985, declined to comment.

In addition to congratulating Mr Kenyatta, the State Department also commended Raila Odinga "for accepting the Supreme Court's decision" upholding the result of the March 4 election.

The US also congratulated "the people of Kenya on the peaceful conduct of the election."

However, asked on Monday whether Amherst College wished to congratulate its alumnus on his achievement, spokesman Peter Rooney told the Nation that the college would have no comment.

Amherst, located in the state of Massachusetts, ranks among the most prestigious liberal-arts schools in the United States.
