Njeri Clement, a graduate student in Social Responsibility at St Cloud University in Minnesota and originally from Kenya, has been named as one of the 2013 Newman Civic Fellows. The Newman Civic Fellows award honors college student leaders throughout the United States who have demonstrated “an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities” through service, research and advocacy.
"Njeri is an excellent example of a student leader who thinks and acts both locally and globally. Through her education in and out of the classroom, Njeri has developed a broad repertoire of communication and leadership skills that have made her a sought-after speaker and an effective "doer" as well as a strategic thinker," said St Cloud University President Earl H. Potter III, who nominated her for the honor.
She has volunteered in various efforts in Minnesota and in Kenya raising awareness for women’s and children’s issues and also mental health. She is also a board member of Kenya-based Ngatha International, a non-profit organization that supports orphans affected by HIV/AIDS.
