Though tallying was not yet halfway done, Mututho came out and thanked Naivasha residents for giving him the chance to serve them for one term.

Provisional IEBC results put TNA candidate John Kihagi at the lead with 12,037, followed by PPK candidate Ndegwa Nguthiru at 5,336 and Mututho at 1,006 votes.

He said that the he was proud of his contribution to the country adding that he was leaving with a smile and his head held high.

Mututho however blamed his fall on his concerted fight against illicit and second generation brews.

In an SMS, the outspoken legislator blamed powerful cartels and organizations for planning his downfall.

“We ran a clean campaign but massive propanda carried the day and the alcohol cartels have made their voices heard. We respect the next leadership and wish them well as they continue with the journey and I thank Naivasha people for the wonderful support,” said the SMS in part.

Mututho will be best remembered for his alcoholic drinks control act which introduced strict measures on the production, drinking and selling of alcohol.

He stood out in the fight against the importation of GMOs, fought for the increase in wages of flower farm workers and was ranked among the leading contributors in the tenth parliament.

While making his announcement, Mututho said that he was disappointed by results coming in from his strongholds and hence the decision to give in.

Speaking on phone, Mututho said that he had no regrets over his fight against illicitbrews which had led to his defeat.

“The lives of many Kenyans have been changed thanks to the alcohol control act and my contribution to the country speaks for itself,” he said.

He hit out at those involved in the manufacture and sale of alcohol said that they had influenced the results outcome through cash.

“Am aware of some people and organizations who raised thousands of shillings to fight me and I have no regrets as everything I did was in good faith,” he said.

The move was met with mixed reactions in Naivasha with his supporters terming the loss as a big blow to those seeking development.

“We have to respect the wishes of the voters but they should have given Mututho a second chance to finish what he started,” said Sam Okoth a flower farm worker.

“ Mututho performed well on national issues but he forgot his electorate and that is the reason he has lost,” said Jane Wambui a resident of Naivasha.
