Raila says that Jubilee Cannot be Trusted to Enforce Land Reforms

CORD Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga
Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has hit at his rivals in the Jubilee Alliance, saying they cannot be trusted to “keep their word’.

Speaking in Isebania town along the Kenya-Tanzania border, Raila accused them of rejecting all agreements with different people, hence there is no way they could be trusted to meet the promises they are making to Kenyans.

“You saw what they did to Musalia Mudavadi after signing an agreement with him. Kenyans need a leader who will say what he means and will not change after getting elected into office,” he said.

He said only CORD could be trusted to keep its promises, adding he will ensure it meets all promises, starting with expanding the economy by at least 10 per cent within one year.

Open talk

He said this would ensure the country creates enough jobs.

“The economy has improved, but we now have to move it to the next level. Monthly funds given to the elderly will be expanded to cover all people past 65 years old,” he added.

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka said time had come for Kenyans to have open conversations about land and who owns it, saying this would solve the matter once and for all.

“Nobody should feel threatened when people talk about land ownership. Only an open talk about it throughout the country will lead to an eventual solution to an issue that has been a problem in the country for years,” he said.

This was the first time CORD visited the region after the acrimonious and chaotic party primaries that saw various politicians ‘awarded’ tickets in controversial manner.

“We are asking you to vote for Raila and other party aspirants to give the coalition strength. Voting for other aspirants from other parties will not only weaken the party, but also deny it of its nominations slots,” said former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno.

Medical Services Minister Anyang’ Nyong’o said Raila had played a leading role in the achievements of President Kibaki, saying as Roads Minister in the 2003-2007, he laid the foundation of the construction that took place in the current government.

Lands Minister James Orengo cautioned Kenyans against electing Uhuru and Ruto, saying only those who will bring respect to Kenya as a country should be put in office.

“Why can’t these people clear their names and then look for leadership later? Kenya as a country need people who will be able to fully concentrate in bringing development,” the immediate former Ugenya MP said. - The Standard
