Siaya town will be renovated in readiness for county government, Town Clerk Dominic Akugo has said.
He said old buildings would be demolished and new ones put up. “This is in readiness for the county government after next month’s General Election,” said Akugo.
He said buildings constructed in the 1930s would be affected as the town prepares to host Siaya County’s headquarters.
He said according to a new plan, approval would only be given to modern structures including storey buildings to attract investors. The town clerk said the town’s Central Business District is in a bad shape, which is discouraging to investors.
Akugo said owners of the affected buildings have not renewed their leases, which expired more than 20 years ago, despite being notified. “People in this town have always ignored renewal notices of leases and now we have decided no renewals will be granted because we want to demolish the buildings except for those willing to construct modern buildings,” he said. -The Standard
