Kibaki Campaigns for Othaya Aspirant

President Kibaki on Monday campaigned for Saba Saba Asili Othaya parliamentary aspirant Mugambi Gichuki who is his preferred successor.

The Head of State took a swipe at Mugambi’s opponents saying they may be popular but lack the education needed to articulate issues.

Without naming names, President Kibaki said there were other aspirants vying for the Othaya parliamentary seat but they are only looking for a livelihood and perks that go with being an MP.

“You cannot deliver if you do not have good education. If you cannot articulate issues, you will go and be a mere observer as others do so,” said the President while addressing voters in Othaya.

“Elect men who can help you with development, don’t gamble with your vote. I know there are many people asking for your vote but from my observation, this young man (Mugambi) is the best suited to succeed me,” he added.

The parliamentary aspirants competing with Mugambi for the Othaya seat are TNA candidate Mary Wambui Munene, Peter King’ara of Grand National Unity party and DP’s Esau Kioni.

Kibaki was accompanied by Head of Civil Service Francis Kimemia, Mugambi and local leaders. No other parliamentary aspirant was present.

This is not the first time President Kibaki is campaigning for Mugambi. In his last tour, Wambui was blocked by presidential security from joining the Head of State as he inspected three development projects in Othaya.

Until last year when she switched parties, Wambui was just known as the ‘PNU activist’. Then she was the most spoken about woman politician in Party of National Unity, stalked by claims, denied right inside State House by the President himself, that she was his 'second wife'.
