It was joy and jubilation yesterday for Mukami Kimathi, the widow of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi, when the government finally fulfilled her long time heart desire of owning a car.
Mrs. Mukami was handed a Toyota Hilux double cabin car by the Tetu District Commissioner, Mr. Herman Shambi, on behalf of the Kenyan government in a ceremony to mark the death of the freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi in Nyeri town yesterday.
In December last year, Kimathi’s widow appealed to the Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to help her get a vehicle to facilitate her movement considering her old age. President Kibaki overheard her appeal since he was just next to the VP and immediately ordered the Head of Public Service Francis Kimemia to ensure she receives a vehicle.
Mrs. Mukami praised the President for the good gesture and called on all Kenyans to maintain peace during this electioneering period saying that is what her husband fought for through Mau Mau.
