A student was on Monday jailed for three years for posing as a senior police officer in an attempt to extort Sh90,000 from three former MPs among them Defence assistant minister David Musila.
Magistrate Lucy Mbugua rejected a probation report she said favoured the Form Three student saying he should serve as an example.
The student admitted that he pretended to be a top police officer in Makueni and Mwingi and sent an abusive message to one of the MPs after he refused to send him cash for a fake funeral expense.
He first sent a text to outgoing Kitui West MP Charles Nyamai, his Kitui South and Mwingi South counterparts Mr Isaac Muoki and Mr Musila respectively.
He insulted Mr Muoki in a text message read out in court.
The court heard that between September and December last year, at an unknown place, using a Safaricom registered line, the teenager attempted to defraud Mr Nyamai of Sh30,000 by pretending that he was the Makueni OCPD.
“He also sent a message to Mr Musila pretending to be the OCPD for Mwingi asking for Sh30,000 to purportedly cater for funeral expenses for his mother-in-law who had died in a road accident,” said prosecutor Daniel Musangi.
The schoolboy also sent a message to Mr Muoki asking for a similar amount but he became abusive when the MP did not respond.
