Artiste Sues ODM, Seeks Sh6 Million for Raila Songs

An artiste wants Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife Ida and ODM to pay him Sh6 million for songs he composed for the party's campaigns.

Alphonsius Nyasetia wants a Nairobi court to direct the party to stop using his two songs in its campaigns.

In papers filed in court yesterday, Nyasetia says he was approached in March last year by officials from ODM's Sibanduki Secretariat who requested him to compose the songs for Raila's presidential bid. He said his Studio Kenya colleagues accepted the deal and composed two songs, Agwambo and Sibanduki.

Nyasetia says he performed the songs at various campaign rallies organised by the party where more than 400 CDs of the songs were sold.

He says that the party has continuously used the songs in its campaign rallies yet he has not beenpaid for his works. The Sibanduki is headed by Ida and Masha wa Maitha.

Justice Jonathan Havelock directed him to serve ODM, Ida and Maitha with the court papers before the hearing of the case on January 31. The court certified the case urgent. - The Star
