Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi Named 2012 Forbes Africa Person of the Year

Dr James Mwangi, Equity Bank CEO, has been named the 2012 Forbes Africa Person of the Year by Forbes Magazine. Dr Mwangi beat out four other nominees during a ceremony held last night in Lagos, Nigeria.
Dr Mwangi was honored for playing a central roe in making Equity Bank the largest bank in East and Central Africa, with more than seven million accounts in Kenya alone. He has also played a crucial role in ensuring banking services, including loans, are available to low income people who previously have in the past been left out of banking services.
Other nominess for the award were Aliko Dangote (Africa's richest man), Joyce Banda (president of Malawai), Tony Elumelu, and Stephen Saad.
Dr Mwangi has won numerous international awards, including the 2012 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and 2012 Africa's Innovation Leader of the Year.
