BELIEVE it or NOT …… Kenya POLICE are on STRIKE

from The Kenyan DAILY POST

The Kenyan DAILY POST has learnt from sources (who can’t be named for security reasons) that police officers are currently on a go-slow to protest the glacial pace at which the government is implementing a pay hike first floated by the Permanent Public Service Remuneration Review in 2007.

Police officers who are involved in the strike are apparently jamming the force’s communication equipment and also responding late to ease traffic jams.

The officers are apparently circulating SMS messages to get more officers to join the go-slow. The text the Kenya DAILY POST has seen reads;

“This Government understands no word but action. It’s our time to act: put down ua tools til our salary is increased. Time 4 go slow from 1/11/12 til paid.”

This is the second go-slow since September. If implemented the police salary review suggested by the Permanent Public Service Remuneration Review will see the wage of lowest paid office move from Ksh 18,155 to Ksh 34,000 per month.
