Striking Kenyan Doctors' Peremende Movement on Twitter Goes Viral

Striking Kenyan public hospital doctors have taken their protests to twitter to demand more investment in public hospital by the Ministry of Public Health. The doctors have been on strike for over three weeks now demanding better pay, less working hours, and better hospital equipment.

The doctors, under the umbrella of KMDPU (Kenya Medical Practitioners and DentistsUnion), started a twitter hashtag #peremendemovement which has since gone viral and has been taken on by other Kenyans. The hashtag was started after Public Health minister Anyang Nyong'o compared striking doctors to "sulking children" who asked publicly whether the government should use its money for development purposes or give it like "peremende" to sulking children [striking doctors].
