A mysterious fire at a Malindi residence last night claimed the lives of a couple and their four children. The deceased father, who is said to be a teacher at a local secondary school, died together with his wife and their four children, all of whom are below the age of 30.
When contacted, the chief of police in Malindi said that he had first gotten word of the fire on Thursday. He regretted that his officers and fire marshals could not save any of the family members from the inferno.
The charred bodies of the deceased have been taken to a mortuary in Malindi. The police have said they have started a probe into what could have started the fire.
Last night’s incident happened on the same day that some students at Emmanuel Complex High School in Uasin Gishu suffocated as they tried in vain to put out a fire that had started in one of the school’s dormitories
