The Siaya County senate seat battle between Lands Minister James Orengo and Finance Assistant Minister Dr Oburu Odinga intensified on Sunday, after Orengo declared that he will not shelve his senate bid.
Orengo, who is also the Ugenya MP, said he will not step down for Dr Oburu in the race that has created sharp division among top ODM party leaders.
“My people have said I soldier on in this race. That who thinks politics is not a serious task should ask those who spent time in police cells agitating for rights of people,”Mr Orengo said as he held a peaceful rally in Bondo Constitutency, Oburu Odinga’s backyard.
He said it is ODM delegates in the county who will decide on who will be their flag bearer.
Supremacy battles between Orengo and Oginga have seen ODM MPs split into two opposing camps.
Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, Edwin Yinda of Alego Usonga and their Rangwe counterpart Martin Ogindo have declared support for Orengo.
Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo is on the only MP who is supporting Dr Oburu’s bid.
