The Netherlands international’s future at White Hart Lane was untenable following the arrivals of
Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson and Belgium play maker Moussa Dembele
from Fulham.
Van der Vaart previously played in Germany for Hamburg and admitted
he and his wife, Sylvie, loved their time in the country.
Since joining Tottenham in August 2010, Van der Vaart has gone on
to make 75 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals in the process.
Van der Vaart had two years left on his
contract at White Hart Lane and although new manager Villas-Boas fancied the
Dutchman’s quality, he opted to cash on him to
fund new signings.
