United States President Barrack Obama has his eyes keen on the forthcoming General Election, stating that it must be free and fair poll.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson said President Obama watches Kenya’s political development everyday and he would hate to see a repeat of 2007-08 post election violence that killed 1133 people and left over 650,000 displaced.

Carson said President Obama urged the two principals (Kibaki and Raila) and the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to offer Kenyans a credible election that will be in line with the new Constitution requirements.

At the same time Obama paid glowing tribute to Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga, saying he is among the best Chief Justices in Africa.

“Kenya not only has one of its best jurists leading the Supreme Court but he is also one of the best in Africa,” Obama said in a statement read by Carson.
