Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife Mama Ida Odinga has said nominated MP Rachael Shebesh was rejected by ODM women due to her behaviour of demeaning rural women.

In an interview on Saturday evening, Mama Ida said during the recent ODM women elections, women rebelled against Shebesh because when she got agitated she spewed unsavoury words towards women especially the rural ones.

“She lost in the ODM Women’s Elections from a ward in Makadara, through to the constituency, and even at Nairobi County. Then she came and forced her way into the national elections, the women rejected this,” Mrs Odinga said.

Ida’s sentiments were also echoed by ODM Women Chairperson Betty Syengo who said they were relieved to have Mrs Shebesh “off their backs”.

“She called those who won “village rural women” and we were angered. It is difficult working with her,” Mrs Syengo said.

Ms Shebesh is on record saying the elections were among the major reason she left the Orange party.

Ida said the departure of Shebesh from ODM would not affect Raila Odinga’s campaign strategy as “she was too problematic”

Shebesh is now in The National Alliance (TNA) party.
