Sunday 2nd September 2012 - After series of speculations about their whereabouts, three Kenya Defence Forces officers who were reported missing on Friday have been found. The three army personnel went missing while battling Al-Shabaab militia in Somalia's Miido town. Al Shabaab claimed through twitter that they had killed them but this has just turned out to be romour.
This revelation came in a peculiar way when Emmanuel Chirchir, Kenya’s military spokesman posted today on his official tweeter account that the KDF soldiers have now been found.
This was what was on his tweeter account:
"3 of KDF troops missing found. Bravo Special Forces and for your bravery hats off"
Major Chirchir did not reveal on the physical conditions of the personnel or where they were found however.
In a gun battle that started on Friday at 4pm, Kenyan troops captured Miido town after fighting the Al-Shabaab militia the whole night.
“This was a brave and important operation conducted by the Amisom forces in lower Juba.
"Amisom is committed to protecting hard won security gains to ensure Somalia continues on the road to sustainable peace,” said the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) commander Lt-Gen Andrew Gutti on Saturday.
"Securing the strategic town of Miido will allow the local community to rebuild their lives free from the terror and tyranny imposed by Al-Shabaab. I pay tribute to the bravery and commitment of all the soldiers involved in this operation.”
