More disturbing details have emerged into an incident where a General Service Unit (GSU) officer killed the girlfriend on Friday at the Recce Headquarters in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
According to detectives investigating the murder, the US-trained officer, Kennedy Mwarabu, sent a message to his wife in Mombasa County at 7:15am and told her to call his colleagues at 10am and find out what would have happened by then.
After sending the message, Mwarabu used an M16 rifle and shot Nthenya Katheka – the girlfriend – 53 times at around 9:15am before turning the gun on himself.
Reports indicate that Mwarabu could have been angered after the girlfriend informed him of her intention to quit the relationship and get married to someone else.
