According to The Star, the MPs warned Ruto that they would not support his 2022 presidential bid if he did not stop meddling in the Nairobi politics.

“He was told that if this continues, the Kikuyus in Nairobi will consider their position, especially after next elections. He was also reminded that it is he who will need the community after the 2017 elections and not the other way round,” The Star quoted one of the politicians.

Ruto, however, defended himself saying he has was not the mastermind of the plan to impose Eugene Wamalwa as the Jubilee Alliance Party candidate.

The legislators are said to have called President Uhuru Kenyatta and told him to warn his deputy to go slow on city matters lest they lose the backing of their supporters.

The debate about Eugene Wamalwa’s candidacy was sparked by an endorsement from some MPs from Central Kenya. The MPs included: Kanini Kega (Kieni), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Jude Njomo (Kiambu) and Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East).

The announcement angered Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko who said the power to choose who was going to be the next Nairobi governor was entirely in the hands of the city voters.

Other Jubilee politicians who have shown interests to unseat Governor Evans KJidero are: former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and nominated MP Johnson Sakaja.

Sonko has already threatened to quit the party if it will unfairly pick Eugene Wamalwa over the rest.
