VOTER COLLAPSES AND DIES AT A POLLING STATION IN KASESE DISTRICT

A man collapsed and died yesterday in a queue at a polling station in Kasese district.

Eyewitnesses said Allan Kasukutu, a businessman in Kinyamaseke town board, collapsed soon after receiving the ballot paper to pick his preferred presidential candidate.

Julius Baganzi, the district police commander for Lake Katwe region, said Kasukutu, in his 60s, died on the way to Kagando hospital.

He said police has information that the deceased stood in the queue for a long time. Some of the people interviewed for this story said Kasukutu has been battling with diabetes and high blood pressure.

Michael Kihokolo, a resident of Munkunyu sub-county, described the deceased as an approachable businessman. Meanwhile, the voter turnout in Kasese district was high at most polling stations. There were still long queues 30 minutes to 4pm, the closing time.
