Barely days after she was brutally maimed and battered, Ruth Gakii has told police that her husband, a UN diplomat beat her senselessly for refusing to give their baby for human sacrifice. Photos doing rounds on social networks of a hapless woman lying on a hospital bed, with swollen lips and black eyes have been greeted with outrage with many questioning the extent of men’s brutality.
Ruth is recuperating at the Nairobi Women’s hospital after allegedly being violently assaulted by Alphonse Kambu, a Papua New Guinea national who is the father to her four year son. The incident has been reported and filed at Kiamumbi police station under OB number 59/18/10/2015.
Gakii claims that she has a reason to believe that her husband wanted to use their four-year- old son for human sacrifice and that when she refused to hand him over, he set upon on her with kicks and blows as neighbors watched helplessly.
“He said the culture is deeply entrenched but promised me that he will never do that to our son. I have an intuition that something bad will happen to my baby,” says Gakii as quoted by the Nairobian.
“He used his fists, beating me until I passed out. When I woke up, my lower lip was torn and needed five stitches. My eyes were swollen and I couldn’t see. My jaws were also aching. I have undergone scans to check if my brain and internal organs are functioning normally,” She added.
She also claims there is no tinge of humanity in Kambu as he has promised to finish what he began once she is out of hospital as he enjoys diplomatic immunity.
Meanwhile Director of Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko has asked the department of criminal investigations to ‘thoroughly’ investigate the incident. In a statement to newsrooms yesterday, he asked Ndegwa Muhoro who heads the department to treat the matter with utmost agency.
