The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) on Friday September 19 launched the timetables for this year’s class eight and form four exams.

There have been fears that the on-going teachers strike that has led to closure of all schools in the country may see the national exams pushed back.

But Education Minister Jacob Kaimenyi has since allayed such fears and said national exams will continue as scheduled.

Here are quick facts you need to know about this year’s KCPE and KCSE exams.

1. Dates
KCPE will start on November 10 and end on November 12.
KCSE theory papers start on October 12, nine days earlier than the tradition in which the Form Four tests usually begin a day after Mashujaa Day.
The KCSE assessment for oral and practical examinations is scheduled to begin on September 28.
Technical and Business examination will begin on November 18.
Early Childhood Development Education certificate and diploma examinations will start on December 8.

2. Candidature
Knec says that it registered 937,467 candidates for the KCPE and 525,802 for KCSE exams.
This is a rise from 485,547 candidates, who sat the Form Four test in 2014, and 889,163 who did the KCPE exam.

3. Security and Transportation
Knec says that the exam will be conducted at a time when the El-Nino rains are expected that adequate measures are being taken to ensure that papers reach all 25,140 examination centers.
Further security officers have been increased from 2 to 6 in areas prone to insecurity as north eastern Kenya, some parts of the Coast and north rift.
