Kuria who has in the past been accused of hate speech and incitement, addressed groups of youth who were dressed in NYS uniform in Gatundu using a mix of vernacular and English.
"That is why I told you to come with your pangas. It is not for slashing only. A man like that (who opposed NYS) should be slashed," Kuria said in Kikuyu.
In the two-minute video clip posted on Facebook, the MP tells the youth that the pangas they are holding are not only meant for slashing grass, but also for slashing those opposed to the NYS.
Several MPs from Cord and URP have voiced concerns over alleged graft at the NYS, calling for Devolution CS Anne Waiguru, under whose docket the agency falls, to step aside.
“We will not drop the demand for Waiguru to either step down or be forced out of office to pave way for proper investigations into the award of tenders and jobs in the Devolution docket,” Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka said over the weekend.
Facebook users who commented on the video have called for the prosecution of Kuria for inciting youth to violence.
“It's unfortunate that you still can't believe a video recording of his speech as being inflammatory. I think Kuria has been reckless in his utterances. I watched him on TV the other day discussing the war on illicit brew and he supported the destruction of property only for the president to warn against damaging of property the next day. Let us not support what is wrong,” Eddie Oduor, a Facebook user said.
