According to Ida, Fidel had to convert from an Anglican to an Orthodox so as to marry his Eritrean wife. Eritrean culture dictates that a husband and wife should be of the same religion and that's why Fidel had to make that religious sacrifice.
At that time, he was madly in love with Lwam after being heart-broken by his ex-wife, Veronicah Wanjiku.
