CORD leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula Sunday accused Deputy President William Ruto of leading a conspiracy against devolution in Kenya.
Accompanied by several ODM and Ford Kenya legislators the two leaders claimed that insecurity, unemployment and cost of living have soared under the Jubilee government with Raila declaring that “this government has lost direction and is now hatching plots against politicians.”
They claimed at a rally in Mombasa that Ruto was the architect of an alleged conspiracy to dissolve the Marsabit County government on the pretext that the county government there had failed to maintain security and law and order.
“I have heard (William) Ruto say he wants to dissolve the Marsabit county government. We warn them that we will not allow this to happen,” said Wetangula.
Raila accused the Jubilee regime of seeking to destroy devolved governments using the pretext of maintaining law and order to dissolve county governments.
“We are warning them that they will meet stiff resistance if they attempt to dissolve the Marsabit county government,” said Raila.
T6he leaders said the local governor cannot be blamed for the breakdown in law and order which they alleged involves dynamics from Ethiopia.
"The security docket belongs to the national government and the governor should not be blamed when the national government fails in its duty," Wetangula said.
Wetangula said he, Raila and former Vice President Kalonzi Musyoka will travel to Marsabit to try and seek a solution to the tribal bloodletting there.
The CORD co-principals claimed the alleged attempt on the senator elect’s life was real and accused Inspector General Kimaiyo of advancing absurd theories to push aside the matter.
Raila warned that any threat to Wetangula’s life will not be taken lightly and announced that CORD will soon make a major announcement regarding the country’s future. He did not elaborate.
MPS and leaders present at the rally include Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, Salim Bedzimba of Kisauni and nominated Senator Agnes Zani
