Two of the thugs were shot dead during the shot-out but the other accomplices escaped in a Mercedes Benz car. A Ceska pistol containing eight bullets was recovered.
The wounded officers have been admitted at a Nairobi hospital and are in a stable condition.
"Major police units have been mobilized to hunt down the gang on the run," deputy police boss Moses Ombati said
